As part of Cricket Wireless and Muve Music’s inaugural Muve First Artist Challenge, seven hip hop and R&B artists will compete for your votes for six weeks until one artist is crowned the January 2013 Muve First Artist. To help you decide which artist to vote for, we’ve provided profiles on each of the artists so you can learn a little more about where their music is coming from.
Meet Tex James, one of our seven artists.
Born and raised in Macon, GA, Tex James considers himself underdog -- as in, he wasn’t always dropping singles that feature B.o.B.
“I got my name and the name of my mixtape based off Westerns because I’m an urban outlaw,” James said. “Anytime you’re against all odds, you’re considered an outlaw. And I’ve been against all odds all my life.”
The hometown hero has made good on his promise to represent Macon to the fullest. Initially finding success as a lead member of the Kadalack Boyz, Tex has also found success as a songwriter, penning the Ying Yang Twins’ “Legendary Status” and writing the hook on Trina’s “Red Bottoms.” In addition to currently hosting his own rap show on Macon’s 97.9 FM, Tex is working on a new mixtape, “Tex James AKA Django Slum Dog” for this fall and a new album for early 2013.
You can download “Smart Girl,” featuring B.o.B. and Stuey Rock, on Muve Music today.
