The Huawei Mercury Software Upgrade is a process that will allow you to upgrade the software on your Huawei Mercury (M886) handset to the most current software that is available. The upgrade is available April 2012.

To determine if your Huawei Mercury has an upgrade available go to Settings>About Phone>Online Upgrade>Firmware Upgrade. If an upgrade is available you will be provided an option to download and install that upgrade. If an upgrade is not available you will receive a message indicating that no updates are available.

Yes, it is recommended and encouraged to back-up the data on your handset prior to upgrading your software. To back-up the data on your Huawei Mercury handset you must have an SD card installed in your phone. Once you have an SD card installed go to the All Backup application in your Application menu. Select the All Backup icon, click the Backup to SD icon, select/deselect your desired items, and click Backup.
Once you have upgraded the software on your Huawei Mercury, return to the All Backup application, click Restore from SD, select the desired file, select/deselect your desired items, click Restore, select Overwrite (if you want to replace any items on your phone) and click Ok. We recommend not using your device during the upgrade process. This might affect the download speed and functionality. If you do leave the download screen, you can access and check the download progress from the notification bar.
The software upgrade for the Huawei Mercury is recommended, but it is not required at this time. If you choose not to perform the software upgrade on your Huawei Mercury now, you will be able to do so at a later time of your choosing.

The icons on the home screen will update and change configuration. You should notice the new MUVE Music background and MUVE Music application will be installed.
