what do the settings under use traffic for mean?

Alerts Only, the default setting, monitors traffic for incidents and congestion along the route, and provides traffic alerts to the driver.  Navigation adds using traffic information to select routes that may avoid traffic. Don’t Use Traffic will cause the traffic gauge to appear grey and removes all traffic information.
