Free Health Screenings During Stroke Awareness Month

ALBUQUERQUE- May 7, 2009 - Do you know your numbers? Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, has teamed up with the American Heart & Stroke Association (AHA/ASA), a nonprofit dedicated to combating heart disease and strokes, to provide two free mini-health fairs featuring non-evasive screenings and educational materials, during Stroke Awareness Month in May.

The free screenings will quickly and easily determine risk factors and inform people of the importance of calling 911 as soon as symptoms appear. Medical associates from PIMA Medical Institute will check blood pressure and weight for each individual and advise on any possible risk level. Free educational literature will also be available.

The free health screenings will take place at the Cricket store at 200 Coors Blvd NW on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The second screening will be at the Cricket store at 6209 Menaul Blvd NE across from Coronado Center on Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

“Heart disease and stroke are serious health concerns, we hope that by providing the tools and knowledge on how to lead a healthy life, we might be able to make a positive impact on the lives of our neighbors in the Albuquerque community,” said James Moak, area general manager for Cricket.

Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States and stroke is the number three killer. Local statistics from the AHA/ASA confirm that Albuquerque citizens, including the Hispanic community, are considered a higher risk group, Monitoring your individual numbers is a healthy start towards taking preventative measures that could lower your risk factors.
