Fastest Text Messager in America Challenges Baltimore to Texting Competition
BALTIMORE – June 25, 2009 – The American record holder for speed text messaging, 21-year-old Ben Cook, is coming to town for a one-day text-off, courtesy of Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services. Cook has held the world record for fastest text messaging twice and is hoping to regain his Guinness Book of World Records title at the Cricket retail store located at 1008 Taylor Ave in Baltimore on Friday, June 26, at 3 pm.
Cook set the American record on July 29, 2006, by taking 42.22 seconds to type the Guinness Book of Records’ standardized message “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.” The current world record holder is Jeremy Sng Gim of Singapore who typed the standardized phrase in 41.40 seconds on February 24, 2008.
“Text messaging is an increasingly common communications tool for all wireless users, from teens and parents keep in touch, to sending a quick note between meetings at work,” said Peter Eckel, regional general manager for Cricket in Baltimore. “Cricket’s simple, affordable flat-rate plans include unlimited text messaging. While Ben Cook can probably beat most of us in a head-to-head texting competition, no one can beat Cricket’s text messaging value for customers.”
Cricket, which just launched service in Baltimore and the Washington, D.C., metro area on June 23, offers unlimited text messaging with one flat-rate and no contracts or credit checks. With unlimited texting, 78 percent of Cricket customers have sent a text message within the last 30 days and 52 percent send at least one text message per day.
