Erica Ulibarri Albuquerque’s Text Messaging Champ!
ALBUQUERQUE – August 13, 2007 – Cricket Communications, Inc, a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, is please to announce Erica Ulibarri, 14, as the top text messager in Albuquerque after she scored the fastest time in Cricket’s CanUtxtFst 2007 text messaging contest. Erica, earned the title of the fastest text messenger in Albuquerque with a time of 1 minute 14 seconds, and walked away with $500 and a Motorola KRZR with twelve months of Cricket® wireless service, including unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited long distance, and unlimited text and picture messaging.
Five local contestants participated in the Albuquerque finals after qualifying during the CanUTxtFst 2007 preliminary rounds held in July. The participants were required to type the 160-character passage: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human," on their wireless phone with no errors or extra spaces. Finalists were able to use their own wireless phone, but the "short text" and other timesaving features on the cell phone were disabled. Two Cricket judges were on hand to monitor the finalists with accurate stopwatches.
Erica Ulibarri will have a chance to set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest text message to be scheduled at a later date. In order to set a new Guinness World Record, Erica will have to type the official passage faster than the current world record of 42.22 seconds. The record is currently held by Ben Cook, a Cricket customer from Provo, Utah.
