El Paso’s CanUTxtFst 2007 Finalists Go Head-to-Head

El Paso, Texas – September 8, 2007 – Many contestants have tried out during the preliminary round of Cricket’s CanUTxtFst 2007 text messaging contest, but only the four fastest text messagers have advanced to the city finals. The city’s fastest fingers are going head-to-head to be named El Paso’s fastest text messeger today at Western Playland located at 1249 Futurity Drive, Sunland Park, New Mexico from 3 to 5 p.m. The winner will receive $500 and Motorola SLVR with 12 months of Cricket’s unlimited wireless service.

El Paso city finalists’ names, ages, and times:
Jorge Sanchez, 16, 1:17
Manuel Delgado, 24, 1:24
Desiree Diaz, 15, 1:34
Nancy Soto, 17, 1:54

In order to set a new city record for the fastest text message, finalists will have to type the following Guinness-authorized 160-character passage: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human," on their wireless phone in less than 57.94 seconds, set in 2006 by Alexandra Mata. To have a qualifying time, competitors will have to type the paragraph with no extra spaces and no spelling errors.  Finalists will be able to use their own mobile phone, but the "short text" and other timesaving features will be disabled. Two Cricket judges, both with accurate stopwatches, will monitor the contestants in the finals.

“We are delighted to host, for the second year in a row, Cricket’s CanUTxtFst 2007 text messaging contest,” said Regan Anderson, El Paso and Las Cruces’ new District Director. “We’ve planned an exciting and fun summer event and hope to have a new City Champion!  Text messaging is the hottest communication trend used to stay in touch with family and friends, and is even used for business.  Some teenagers send up to ten thousand text messages a month! With Cricket you get unlimited text messaging included in every rate plan.”
