Cricket is Celebrating Six Years of Service by Giving Back to the Community

TUCSON – December 27, 2006 – Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, is celebrating its 6 year anniversary in Tucson by donating $2,000 to New Beginnings for Women and Children. In addition, Cricket will be giving away a Nokia 6265i and 12 months of Cricket unlimited wireless service to Arturo Soto, the customer with the oldest phone on the Cricket network in Tucson.

The celebration starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Cricket retail store located on 4605 East Speedway. Also present will be Jane Burch, CEO for New Beginnings for Women and Children, Sherie Steele, Director of Development for New Beginnings, Tomas Leon, President and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, along with the five runners-up for the oldest phone number in Tuscon.

“It’s fun to look back and see how much technology has advanced. We are delighted to reward our customers and able to give to a great organization like New Beginnings for Women and Children that is so important to the Tucson community. The support that Tucson has given us during the past six years has been amazing,” stated Edye Popke, Area General Manager for Cricket.

New Beginnings for Women and Children is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization, founded in Tucson in 1987 to help homeless women and their children to become economically self-sufficient. New Beginnings helps women find the tools to build a new life:  job skills, financial literacy, parenting skills, community-building and goals-setting and goals-achieving.  Despite the scarcity of low-income housing in Pima County, at least 3 out of 4 New Beginnings’ clients are able to achieve household stability when they leave their services. Each year New Beginnings for Women and Children provides services to over 1,000 women and children.
