Cricket in Pittsburgh Makes a Call for Action to Raise phones for U.S. Troops Overseas
PITTSBURGH - In response to the recent theft of more than 500 deactivated cell phones earmarked to be recycled and sold to help pay for new phones and prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops overseas, Cricket Communications has mobilized its staff, customers and anyone within shouting distance.
"When we found out someone had stolen most of the phones that the Laurel Highlands' students and faculty and surrounding communities had collected," said Sam Sarnicke, Cricket's Pittsburgh area general manager, "we decided to put out a call to action."
Working with FROGGY-Radio, Cricket is asking anyone to donate any old, unused deactivated cell phone to the cause. "All of our Cricket stores are ready, willing and able to take your phones and make sure they get into the right hands - our troops," Sarnicke said.
In addition, by calling on its staff, retail outlets, manufacturing partners and every available resource, the communications company is looking to raise as many phones as possible. "I don't think there's any limit to the number of phones we can collect in support of this effort," Sarnicke said.
