Cricket and Community Blood Center Team Up to Recruit Blood Donors at Dayton High Schools
DAYTON - October 24, 2007 – Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, and Community Blood Center continue their partnership this school year to present the 2007 – 08 edition of the Blood Center’s annual high school blood drive. The theme of this year’s blood drive is Answer the Call: don8 bl%d, inspired by the popular teen pastime of text messaging.
Cricket has partnered with the Community Blood Center for a second year to help create a fun event out of the blood drive and provide incentives for students who donate. Cricket will be at [NAME OF SCHOOL] with the Cricket Hummers, handing out free giveaways to all students, and providing t-shirts to all students who donate blood.
Last year, the Cricket/Community Blood Center partnership resulted in a highly successful high school blood drive which resulted in a record 7,806 donations. “The success of our high school blood drive is especially exciting because it’s also an educational event,” said Tracy Morgan, donor services manager for Community Blood Center. “For many participants, it is the first time to donate blood, and we hope they will become lifelong donors.”
“We’re proud to be a part of such an important community project,” said Garth Brandwein, area general manager for Cricket. “We support both the altruistic and the educational nature of the Community Blood Center’s annual high school blood drive.”
64 high schools in 13 counties will be participating in this program, including Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, and Warren counties in Ohio, and Indiana county in Pennsylvania.
High school donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parental consent form), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Parental consent forms for 16-year-old donors are available online at www.givingblood.org or from a Community Blood Center representative. Parental consent is not required by law for 17-year olds; however, individual high schools may require parental consent to donate blood for all student donors.
