Cricket Spokane Makes Wishes Come True for Its 5TH Birthday

SPOKANE, Wash. -  In honor of its 5th anniversary of serving the Spokane market, Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, did more than just celebrate its birthday, it helped to make a young boy's wish come true as part of his request with the Make A Wish Foundation. Cricket, its authorized dealer PC Tune, based in the Post Falls/Hayden, Idaho area, and the Make A Wish Foundation joined together on May 17 to grant 14-year-old Austan's request of almost two years. During the birthday celebration, Austan, who suffers from Ewing's sarcoma, a type of bone cancer found in children and young adults, received a top-of-the-line Alienware gaming laptop computer with 17-inch monitor - the most advanced gaming PC on the market.

"Cricket has been part of this community for five years and our birthday wish was to make someone else's dream come true. When we found out about Austan's wish, we were all over it," said Kasey Crocheron, district manager for Cricket in the Washington and Oregon markets. "Cricket is very proud to be part of something this great and it has been a wonderful experience working with the Make A Wish Foundation during this process. We're thrilled that we were able to help grant Austan's wish and for the opportunity to see that sparkle in his eyes."

After beginning chemotherapy and radiation treatments for his illness in May of 2004, Austan was referred to the Make A Wish Foundation. Two months later a team of volunteers approached him and asked what he would like if he could have anything, go anywhere, meet anyone or be anything. He then expressed his wish for gaming computer.

Austan arrived in style for his celebration last Wednesday, riding up in a Hummer SUV with his best friend and parents to a crowd of more than 30 people, including his grandparents and more than 20 Cricket team members. In addition to the custom-designed laptop, Cricket also surprised Austan, who will be a high school freshman next fall, with a Kyocera Slider Remix phone and one year of unlimited service, a backpack to carry his laptop in, two of Austan's favorite video games and nearly 50 of his favorite candy bars. He also received a wireless mouse, printer, desk lamp and anti-virus software from the Make A Wish Foundation to make his gift complete.
