Cricket Provides Parents with Text Messaging Education Tomorrow

EL PASO, TEXAS – September 9, 2008 – Cricket Communications, Inc, a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, and the Socorro Independent School District (SISD) have partnered to teach parents about the ubiquitous teen trend of text messaging. Cricket will host a FREE 30 minute text messaging education seminar at SISD Community Service Center, located at 12300 Eastlake Drive, on Wednesday, September 10, at 8:30 a.m.

Cricket will teach parents everything they need to know about text messaging – what it is, why teens love it, why they should consider using it themselves, and most importantly, how to keep their children safe from predators or bullies who use text messaging to reach their victims. Parents will also receive Text Messaging 101 for Parents, Cricket’s new texting education booklet with 100 of the most used text abbreviations and acronyms.

 “Text messaging is the preferred way for teens to communicate, but many parents don’t understand it and feel like it’s a foreign language with all of the acronyms,” said Regan Anderson, district director for Cricket in El Paso and Las Cruces. “It is important for parents to stay up-to-date with the technology to keep their children safe, and even use texting to keep in touch with them.”

This is the first in a series of text messaging education seminars that Cricket will host in different area schools.
