Cricket Launches High-Speed Wireless Internet in Portland, Salem, Eugene
PORTLAND – November 6, 2007 – Oregonians today have a new option for high-speed wireless Internet access, as Cricket launched its wireless Internet service covering the Portland, Salem and Eugene metropolitan areas. Rather than rely on sporadic downtown hot spots, Cricket Wireless Internet Service turns wireless users into their own hot spots with a simple card that inserts into their laptop computer. Using this card, Cricket Wireless Internet users have unlimited access to Cricket’s mobile-broadband network.
As with Cricket’s cell-phone plans, Cricket Wireless Internet customers never have to sign a contract to take advantage of the unlimited monthly access. The service costs $35 per month for existing Cricket mobile-phone customers and $40 per month for non-customers.
“For the past year we’ve provided Oregonians a fresh alternative to cellular service, and our Wireless Internet Service provides the same, unique freedom of ‘no contracts’ and unlimited service,” said Neil Grubb, president and CEO of Cricket LCW, the joint venture responsible for bringing Cricket® service to Oregon and Southwest Washington. “This is a natural evolution for our company, and we’re excited to let Oregonians finally be their own hot spot.”
Cricket Wireless Internet Service customers can get online anywhere in Portland, Vancouver, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Salem and Eugene. Cricket LCW plans to expand its mobile-broadband coverage in early 2008 with comprehensive coverage in the Willamette Valley from Vancouver to Eugene.
Cricket’s unlimited mobile-phone service launched in Portland on December 12, 2006.
