Cricket Launch in Savannah Marked with Free Gas, Party in the Park and Press Conference with Mayor Johnson
SAVANNAH – October 20, 2008 – Cricket Communications, Inc, a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, recently joined the local business community and marked its entry with partnerships with nonprofit organizations, as well as a promotion to ease consumers’ economic worries.
The launch of the Savannah market kicked off with a press conference held at City Hall. “We are offering Savannah and Hilton Head a new option for unlimited wireless communications, with more services and features at a better value than consumers here have seen before,” said Todd Brown, district director for Cricket. “Cricket also has the latest technology, a high-quality, all-digital network to ensure our customers have a top quality service and experience.”
At the press conference, which included remarks by Mayor Otis Johnson, Cricket announced partnerships with two nonprofits. A check for $4,000 was presented to All Walks of Life, an organization that helps at-risk youth express themselves with arts-based educational programs. In addition, Cricket presented “Did You Know” fact posters about the Declaration of Independence to Massie Heritage Center, Georgia’s oldest public school that is now a teaching museum for history and architecture. Last month, the company held an event at Massie to display a copy of the Declaration of Independence, which attracted more than 1,000 people. Massie will coordinate a traveling display of the fact posters to all Chatham County schools.
“Cricket is proud to be involved with these organizations and this is just the beginning of our commitment to the quality of life in Savannah,” Brown said. “Soon we will announce the details of our collaborations with several local schools and community organizations."
Cricket incorporated an economic boost into its launch events by giving away $3,750 worth of free gas at the Enmark station in Pooler. Several media partners made the surprise announcement for the first 150 customers who arrived: the first 50 received $50 gas certificates, the next 50 received $25 gas certificates and a car wash and the last 50 received a car wash and a Cricket t-shirt.
Other activities of the Savannah opening included offering free refreshments and giveaways to Chatham Area Transit passengers at two downtown bus stops, sponsoring Marne Call @ Fort Stewart, and a lively “Get Crunk with Cricket” party in the park on Saturday, October 18, at Grayson Stadium. Activities included break-dancers, graffiti art demonstrations, inflatables, airbrush artist and several prize drawings; the evening ended with a free concert featuring All Walks of Life’s The P.R.O.J.E.C.T.S.
Cricket’s entrance into the market follows its purchase of Hargray Wireless earlier this year. Hargray wireless customers have transitioned to become Cricket customers, and Cricket released customers from any contracts that were in place and is refunding any deposits paid. Cricket has also expanded and enhanced the network and infrastructure in Savannah. It has subsequently created approximately 65 jobs in the Savannah/Hilton Head Island area, including those at its 35 authorized dealer partners.
Cricket is known for providing unlimited wireless services at a predictable and affordable flat rate, without requiring contracts or credit checks. Cricket’s two retail stores are located at 7929 Abercorn Street in Savannah and 9 Mill Creek Circle in Pooler. The company offers monthly rate plans ranging from $30 to $60 per month, which include unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited U.S. long distance, unlimited text and picture messaging, unlimited text to Mexico, unlimited Mobile Web, unlimited directory assistance and nationwide roaming minutes.
