Cricket Hosts Toy Drive for Armed Services YMCA

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – December 11, 2006 – Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, today announced a corporate and store-wide holiday toy drive to commemorate the launch of its simple and affordable mobile phone service in the San Diego market last week and benefit the Armed Services YMCA. Cricket is offered by Leap Wireless International, Inc., headquartered in San Diego.

“Cricket strives to be a good corporate citizen in every market where we have a presence,” said Fernando Corona, regional vice president of the Southwest region for Cricket. “Launching Cricket wireless service in our hometown of San Diego is especially exciting, and we are eager to support the community through partnerships with non-profit organizations like the Armed Services YMCA.”

The ASYMCA, which provides over 40 programs and services for military personnel and their families, will work with Cricket to collect gifts for the children of San Diego’s military families. The toy drive, which began on Wednesday, December 6 and will continue through December 18, will collect new, unwrapped toys or books at all Cricket stores and premier dealers. Additionally, toy drive bins will be available to all Cricket and Leap corporate employees at the company’s headquarters. At the end of the collection period, all the toys will be given to the ASYMCA for distribution at a special Christmas morning event at the Hard Rock Café in downtown San Diego.  Military families will be able to visit the restaurant and the children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa Claus and receive a present.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Cricket to help collect toys for our annual toy drive,” said Paul Steffens, Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA. “We are fortunate to join forces with Cricket during such an exciting time in its company history, and appreciate their generosity of time and resources to to assist in the Hard Rock Café event for military families this holiday season.”

Cricket wireless service, which includes unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited U.S. long distance, unlimited text messaging, picture messaging, instant messaging, and calling features including voicemail, caller ID and call waiting, is now available throughout the county, from Oceanside to the Mexico border and as far east as Poway and Lakeside, according to Corona.
