Cricket Honors Local Students Involved in Leukemia & Lymphoma Society School & Youth Program

Cincinnati, Ohio – May 7, 2009 – Cricket Communications, Inc, a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, will host the first “Cricket Cares Thank You Party” to honor The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) School & Youth program participants, including the student and school that raised the most money for the cause, the program T-shirt design contest winner and LLS “hero” Megan Brankamp. Megan was diagnosed with leukemia on October 12, 2001, two days before she turned 3. She completed her chemotherapy treatments in December 2003. She currently is in remission and recently celebrated her cure date on December 18th 2008. The celebration will take place on May 9, from 4-6 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Lodge at the Voice of America Park (MetroParks of Butler County, VOA Park Drive, off Cox Road) in West Chester.

“It has been our privilege to be a part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth program. It has been especially amazing to see how our youth can impact a community. Their efforts raised over $100,000 in just a few months,” says Patrick Jones, marketing manager for Cricket.

More than 350 local schools participated in the LLS School & Youth program; nine of which were a part of the Cricket Cares and School & Youth pilot program. Being a “Cricket School” made the school and students eligible for more incentives provided by Cricket, including a free cell phone for the student who fundraised the most and broadband service for the school that raised the most, both of which will be awarded at the thank you celebration. These schools include: Holmes High School, St. Henry District High School, Woodland Middle School, William Mason High School, Princeton High School, Harry Russell Elementary School, Xenia High School, CO Harrison, and Winton Woods.

As many students are planning for college or their summer vacations, Cricket and LLS are already looking forward to next year and a new wave of excited students to come together to compete for the 2009-2010 School & Youth program. Schools are able to sign up early to be a “Cricket School” by contacting Betsy Ruwe at LLS (Betsy.Ruwe@lls.org).
