Cricket Celebrates Seven Years in Salem with Free Bus Fare for All Riders

SALEM, Ore. – December 3, 2008 – As gas prices and economic uncertainty continue to drive commuters to choose mass-transit options, Cherriots Salem Keizer Transit and Cricket have announced a holiday-timed gift: free bus rides for all riders on Saturday, December 13. On that day, Cricket will pay for everyone’s fare so all Cherriots riders can ride the bus system free of charge. Cricket revealed this gift to Salem/Keizer residents as Cricket celebrates seven years offering unlimited wireless services in the area.

On December 13, the same day Salem/Keizer families will be searching for ways to avoid traffic and parking hassles on their way to the PGE Festival of Lights Holiday Parade, anyone wishing to ride Cherriots during regular hours of operation, can do so courtesy of Cricket.  Cricket will also offer free coffee and hot chocolate at the Cherriots Lobby, located at 220 High Street NE in Salem.
Cricket is known for providing multiple unlimited wireless services at a flat rate: unlimited anytime minutes, U.S. long-distance, text and picture messaging, Mobile Web and more. The company does not require customers to sign contracts or pass credit checks.

“Our customers understand that our flat rate, predictable plans can help save and stretch a dollar – many are even opting-out of landline service to make Cricket their one-number calling plan for affordability,” said Neil Grubb, president and CEO of Cricket LCW, the joint venture providing Cricket service in Oregon and Southwest Washington. “On December 13, we’ll help all local residents find another way to stretch their dollar by celebrating our seventh birthday and thanking our customers for seven years of support for our unlimited wireless products.  We hope our gift will make it easier to get to the Festival of Lights.”

Cricket recently launched of the Greg Oden O-Fōn, a limited-edition phone exclusive to Cricket and available only while supplies last. Cricket will donate $80 from every Greg Oden O-Fōn sold to Oregon Mentors. In addition to the laser-etched phone, the O-Fōn comes packed with a variety of exclusive materials, including:

• A limited-edition Greg Oden O-Fōn handset etched with Oden’s autograph and jersey
• A Greg Oden Topps rookie card designed exclusively for Cricket
• Text messages from Greg throughout the season, sent exclusively to O-Fōn owners
• An exclusive discount on Trail Blazers merchandise
• Coupons for discounted Cricket accessories, including accessories for the O-Fōn

Just in time for the holidays, Cricket also announced three exclusive holiday gift packages available now through December 31, 2008:
The Sports Fan:  Buy the O-Fōn and get two FREE Portland Trail Blazers tickets and with one month of free airtime;
The Family Plan:  Buy any two phones and get one of equal or lesser value FREE, along with one month free airtime. It’s only $99 per month – a flat fee – to use all three phones after that;
The High-Speed Internet Plan:  Buy any phone and get a Cricket Broadband USB Modem for $49.99, giving users wireless Internet accessibility anywhere Cricket has service.

Nationwide, approximately 93 percent of Cricket’s customers use Cricket service as their primary phone, while 51 percent use it as their only phone, compared to the national average of just 12 percent, according to data from the Yankee Group.

“This is just another area where our customers are tightening their belts – making flat rate, affordable and unlimited calling and texting services their primary communications tool,” said Grubb.
