Cricket Announces Jorge Sanchez as El Paso’s Text Messaging Champ!
EL PASO, TEXAS – September 10, 2007 – Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services is proud to announce Jorge Sanchez, 16, as the top text messager in El Paso after he scored the fastest time in Cricket’s CanUtxtFst 2007 text messaging contest. Jorge earned the title of the fastest text messenger in El Paso with a time of 1 minute 14 seconds. He walked away with $500 and a Motorola SLVR with twelve months of Cricket® wireless service, including unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited long distance, and unlimited text and picture messaging.
Four local contestants participated in the El Paso finals after qualifying during the CanUTxtFst 2007 preliminary rounds held in July and August. The participants were required to type the 160-character passage: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human," on their wireless phone with no errors or extra spaces. Finalists were able to use their own wireless phone, but the "short text" and other timesaving features on the cell phone were disabled. Two Cricket judges were on hand to monitor the finalists with accurate stopwatches.
Jorge will have a chance to set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest text message to be scheduled at a later date. In order to set a new Guinness World Record, he will have to type the official passage faster than the current world record of 42.22 seconds. The Guinness World Record is currently held by Ben Cook, a Cricket customer from Provo, Utah.
