Oregon Cricket Lifeline Credit

What is the Cricket Lifeline Credit?

Lifeline is a government subsidy that grants eligible individuals up to $13.50 off their monthly wireless phone bill. An eligible customer may receive Lifeline on either a landline or wireless connection, but the discount is available for only one phone line per household. Lifeline can be applied to any single Cricket Wireless rate plan. It may not be applied to a Cricket Broadband or Cricket PAYGo account. Additional information can be found at the Oregon Public Utility Commission’s (PUC’s) Lifeline website.

Who qualifies for the Cricket Lifeline Credit?

You may be eligible for the Cricket Lifeline Credit if you are a resident of Oregon and receive assistance from one of the following programs:

  • Food Stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
  • Certain Medicaid Programs
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income, not including Security Retirement benefits)
  • TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)

How do I apply?

If you don’t have Cricket Wireless service already, you must activate a new account before you can apply for the Cricket Lifeline Credit. Once you have Cricket Wireless service, complete the Oregon PUC‘s Lifeline application process either online at a Cricket store, online at home, or by faxing or mailing a printed document to the Oregon PUC. Applying online is strongly recommended for speed and security.

The online application is available at this link (hyperlink to www.rspf.org). A printable version of the application is available in local Cricket stores or available for download here (hyperlink to www.rspf.org) . Completed print applications can be faxed to the Oregon PUC at 1-877-567-1977 or 503-378-6047, or they can be mailed to: PUC, PO Box 2148, Salem, OR 97308.

The Oregon PUC manages the Lifeline program and is solely responsible for approving or denying eligibility. The Lifeline application requires customers to provide a Social Security Number (SSN). This information is used by the PUC to determine eligibility.

How does it work?

If the Oregon PUC approves your application, Cricket will notify you within three weeks via a text message (SMS) sent to your Cricket Wireless phone. Cricket will apply the Lifeline discount to your account within one week of receiving approval notification from the PUC. You may call the PUC at 1-800-848-4442 with any questions about the status of your Lifeline application.

What does the Cricket Lifeline credit mean for me?

When you take advantage of the Cricket Lifeline Credit, Cricket service delivers even more value for the dollar. Step up to a higher-value rate plan, add a feature bolt-on you've always wanted, or just enjoy the savings each month!

Are there any restrictions?

You must be a resident of Oregon to receive this credit. Only eligible consumers may enroll and the service is non-transferable. You must be the head of household and no one at your residence can receive land or wireless Lifeline service from another provider. Lifeline can only be applied to ONE PHONE LINE PER HOUSEHOLD, and the name on the account must match the name of the household member participating in the eligible program. To receive the Cricket Lifeline Credit, you must live in Cricket’s designated service area, must meet Oregon’s qualifications, and must verify your qualification annually.
