Volunteers from Cricket, The Community Place of Greater Rochester and Rebuilding Together joined forces with local business partners to help in the revitalization of a city neighborhood. Their effort enabled a tenant with physical and developmental disabilities who had been living on the second floor of an apartment complex at 437 Parsells Ave. to move into a newly renovated, handicapped-accessible, first-floor residence.
A neighborhood celebration took place on Aug. 12 as volunteers applied finishing touches to the renovation and moved the tenant, Stephanie, into her new home. The event featured free food, drinks and music as well as a chess tournament, children’s activities and a health fair.
For the second year in a row, Cricket is one of the top national sponsors of Rebuilding Together, a national, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate and revitalize homes and communities for low-income residents.
Since Rebuilding Together doesn’t have a local presence in Rochester, Cricket partnered with The Community Place for the apartment renovation for Stephanie, who receives assistance through a number of the organization’s life-skills programs.
