Cricket Provides Free Internet Service to Families in Need

Shortly before the holidays, Cricket spread some cheer and helped bring the power of technology to underserved families by participating in a distribution event of computers and free broadband devices and service in Santee California.  The San Diego County Office of Education recently embarked on a collaborative project entitled Unlimited Access with One Economy, Cricket, Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach initiative, Computers 2 SD Kids and Google to enable selected students within San Diego County with greater access to the Internet. Through this project, the Santee School District was chosen as the beneficiary of a joint venture donation of over 450 computers and broadband cards with two years of service.

One Economy is a global nonprofit organization that uses innovative approaches to deliver the power of mobile technology and information to low-income people.  Cricket Communications and Qualcomm, through its Wireless Reach initiative, joined One Economy and numerous other partners in this collaboration to bring 24/7 Internet access to underserved and first-time English learning families. This is the second time Cricket has joined One Economy in donating mobile broadband service to low-income families, the first being in Washington DC earlier in 2010.
