On September 14, 2010, The City Union Mission, Kansas City’s oldest and largest homeless shelter honored Cricket Kansas City with the Matthew 25 Award for Outstanding Corporate Involvement. The award is given out annually to corporations that give their time and talent to The City Union Mission. This year Cricket was one of 4 local companies, including Sonic, VML Advertising and Fiorello’s Jack Stack BBQ, to receive this prestigious award.
Cricket has been a partner of the Mission since October 2007. That year, the first-ever “Ring Home for the Holidays” initiative brought Cricket volunteers to the Mission with Cricket phones so the residents could call their friends and loved ones over the holidays. This tradition continues to live on. Last year, a resident called her cousin in Ghana, and another resident contacted her grandmother in Puerto Vallarta. Cricket also provides hot meals at the Mission’s family center on a regular basis, conducts toy, food, and coat drives during the holidays for the residents in need and as part of Cricket’s Rebuilding Together partnership, more than 20 Cricket volunteers conducted a rebuilding day at the Mission last April and updated the family shelter’s Rainbow Room.
Since 1924, The City Union Mission has provided warm beds, nutritious food and a place of safety for thousands of poverty stricken and homeless men, women and children in the Kansas City area. The Cricket Kansas City team is proud to be involved with the City Union Mission and looks forward to many more years of partnership.
