Cricket Houston Makes 3,200 Sandwiches for Kids Meals

September 7, 2010 - As families across the country were prepping  to head back to school, the Houston team kicked off their year-long partnership with Kids Meals, a local organization dedicated to providing free lunches to children in need. The Cricket team coordinated a “Backpacks and Snacks” donation drive that ran for two weeks across 94 Houston area Cricket stores where local residents could donate backpacks, school supplies, juice boxes, and healthy, non-perishable snack-food items.

In addition to the donation drive, approximately 45 Cricket employees and family members helped prepare over 3,000 lunches, a volunteer record according to Kids Meals, and personally delivered 1,500 lunches to hungry children. Additionally, the Cricket Houston team will also be donating over $15,000 in financial contributions and supplies, as well as numerous additional volunteer hours across the region.

According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas ranks third in the nation for food insecurity, meaning one in four children in the state are hungry. Kids' Meals feeds a hungry child for only $1.50 per day and many times, this is their only meal.  The Houston market was proud to partner with Kids Meals in their mission to end hunger among children by delivering nutritious meals to the doors of children in need, free of cost, year-round.
