Frozen Turkey Bowling Draws Crowd and Donations at 2011 Buffalo Winterfest Powder Keg Festival

The crowds gathered to watch and particpate in last weekend's Cricket Wireless Frozen Turkey Bowling Competition in downtown Buffalo for the second annual Buffalo Winterfest and Powder Keg Festival.

 

Contestants rolled frozen turkeys down regulation sized bowling lanes to strike bowling pins in hopes of bowling a tureky, three strikes in a row, and be entered to win a Cricket phone and a year of service! The competition was tough and all proceeds and donations benefitted the Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL).

B.B. King - Black History Month Featured Musician

Musician. Born on September 16, 1925, in Itta Bene, Mississippi. A singer and guitarist born into a sharecropping family, B. B. King became one of the best-known blues performers, an important consolidator of blues styles, and a primary model for rock guitarists. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he began his career as a disc jockey in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was dubbed "The Beale Street Blues Boy." That nickname was soon shortened to "B. B."

February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.

 

Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
